Sri Lanka successfully conducted ‘Asia Pacific Scout Growth Coordinators’ Meet’

Scouts from divers backgrounds came together to exchange ideas and experiences at the ‘Asia Pacific Regional Scout Growth Coordinators’ Meet’ that was held in Sri Lanka from September 13-17

 

In a symbolic display of unity and resilience the ‘Asia Pacific Regional Scout Growth Coordinators’ Meet’ commenced on September 13 at the Morven Hotel in Colombo and concluded on September 17. The event, attended by growth coordinators from fourteen countries across the Asia Pacific region, received an auspicious start with the presence of Ali Sabry, PC, Minister of Foreign Affairs, as the Chief Guest.

Attorney-at-Law Janaprith Fernando, Chief Scout Commissioner, warmly welcomed the participants and expressed his gratitude for the Foreign Minister’s attendance at this international gathering hosted by the Sri Lanka Scout Association.  Fernando attributed the choice of Sri Lanka as the meeting venue to the remarkable achievement of strong membership growth, which currently stands at an impressive 115,000 scouts. He also extended a warm welcome to the Ambassadors and High Commissioners representing their respective countries, acknowledging the invaluable support of the government in fostering scout activities. 


S. Prassanna Shrivastava, Director of Organisational Development and Messengers Peace at the Asia Pacific Support Centre of the World Organisation of the Scout Movement, emphasised in his address the pivotal role scouting plays in helping young people achieve their life aspirations. He underscored the significance of scouting’s mission to empower and guide youth towards their goals.

Minister Sabry, in his address, acknowledged the challenges Sri Lanka has faced over the past three years, including economic hardships. However, he expressed optimism about the country’s ongoing recovery and remarked that the current situation is an improvement over the previous year. He commended the scout movement for its ability to bring together divers groups of individuals, fostering unity and inclusivity in a world where division often prevails. 
The vote of thanks was proposed by Attorney-at-Law Saminda Jayasekera, Headquarters Scout Commissioner and Workshop Director, recognising the collaborative efforts that made the event possible. 


The Asia Pacific Scout Growth Coordinators’ Meet served as a testament to Sri Lanka’s resilience and commitment to promoting scouting values and cooperation among nations in the Asia Pacific Region. 
As scouts from divers backgrounds came together to exchange ideas and experiences, the event not only reflected a return to normalcy but also symbolised the enduring spirit of unity and growth in the region.
