‘The Wide Robot’ Sci-fi animation on a robot lost in a jungle

Hollywood animation sci-fi movie ‘The Wide Robot’ based on the book series published under the title is now being screened across 16 theaters in Colombo and around the country.

Written and directed by Chris Sanders who is famed for his previous works like ‘How to train your dragon’ and ‘The call of the Wild’, The Wild Robot’ revolves around a robot named Roz who is on a deserted island after a shipwreck and he must learn to adapt to its new surroundings. Building relationships with the native animals, Roz soon develops a parental bond with an orphaned gosling.
The movie begins with a factory where the workers build Rozzum unit 7134, a robot. Roz however wakes up for the very first time to find that she’s alone on a remote, wild island. Roz doesn’t know how she got there, or where she came from; she only knows that she wants to stay alive.

Produced by DreamWorks Animation and distributed by Universal Pictures the making of the animated film adaptation based on the book series ‘The Wild Robot’ was announced in September 2023. 

It stars Lupita Nyong’o as Roz, the title character, alongside an ensemble voice cast including Pedro Pascal, Kit Connor, Bill Nighy, Stephanie Hsu, Mark Hamill, Catherine O’Hara, Matt Berry, and Ving Rhames.
