They recently designed and carried out a project to donate essential medical equipment to the Ministry of Health and the National Hospital of Sri Lanka

This group effort is a tribute to numerous young individuals in the  country, who contribute in different capacities, addressing the needs of  the community and the country

 

Celebrating the 10th anniversary, the Royal College Group of 2011 (RCG11s) engaged in a series of projects to support the community and the health sector of the country, which has been adversely affected by the ongoing pandemic. As one of the active batches within the Union of Royal College – Colombo, they recently designed and carried out a project to donate essential medical equipment to the Ministry of Health and the National Hospital of Sri Lanka.  

Accordingly, they were able to raise around one million Sri Lankan rupees and implemented the project in two phases in the beginning of June 2021. As the Phase 1, RCG11s donated ‘CPAP machines, Pulse Oximeters, Electronic BP Machines, Nebuliser Masks  and Nebulisers to the Ministry of Health. These equipment were received by the  Minister Ms. Pavithra Wanniarachchi and the President of Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA), Dr. Anuruddha Padeniya at the premises of the Ministry of Health.

As the Phase 2, the RCG11s donated 30 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) packs consisting of ‘Face Shield, 100ml Sanitiser Bottle, K95 Face Masks and Gloves Packs’ to the National Hospital of Sri Lanka, which was a timely need for the frontline workers. These packs were received by Dr. Indika Jagoda, Deputy Director – Accident Services, at the National Hospital premises.  

Mr. Akila Samarasinghe, Mr. Nirmith Wanigaratne and Mr. Vishan Weerasinghe, who are the President, the Secretary and the Treasurer of RCG11s participated at the event representing the entire batch, along with Mr. Sathananda Ragaventhan and Mr. Damith Mahaliyanage, who were the Project Chairperson and the Project Coordinator. This group effort is a tribute to numerous young individuals in the country, who contribute in different capacities, addressing the needs of the community and the country. Youth like this, who lead by example set the phase for many more generations of young individuals, reminding their civic responsibility and the essence they should have as human beings.
