The very famous Ashan Fernando aka ‘Spy 007’ from Yes FM 89.5 is no more with us. Rest in Peace Ashan/Spy. Your voice will certainly linger in the Air forever!
The Former Radio Personalities who worked with him through the years will always remember and cherish him forever.
Phat David - Former Assistant to the Programme Director and Radio Personality of Yes FM.
For the few that understand the radio industry, there is much sorrow for the loss of a true prodigy. A brother, A friend. For those few, deep sorrow. The industry would have been firmly established as a sanctuary of real radio work.
Private Josh - Former Radio Personality Yes FM. My most cherished memories of SPY revolve around the early days when five of us aspiring rookie radio DJs gathered at the Collates building to kickstart what would become the pioneering private radio station, 89.5 Yes FM. Those initial moments were a whirlwind of excitement and nervousness as we grappled with the console and stumbled through our first attempts behind the microphone.
Patrice - Former Radio Personality Yes FM/Capital Radio

In memory of a cherished colleague and friend, whose passion for radio ignited a flame in all who knew him. With unwavering enthusiasm and a drive for excellence, he nurtured confidence and strength in those around him, empowering us to shine on the airwaves.
Annie - Former Radio Personality Yes FM/Capital Radio
As much as Spy loved speaking on the Airwaves of Radio way back in time, I just loved how he had the guts to sing Amazing Grace at Karaoke clubs. I can still picture him behind the microphone at Yes FM, he used to place his hands together on the console to get ready to speak. Ashan shocked Radio in Sri Lanka. And I am glad, we worked together at Yes FM as a team!
Captain Sri - Former Radio Personality Yes FM, Sun FM and Gold FM
My memorable moment with Ashan (SPY) started in 1995 when I joined as an Overnight Disc Spinner (program called Enchanted Hours) at Yes FM. During my training period I was blessed to be seated during a SUPERFAX request show with SPY, and those four hours I spent inside the studio watching a guy with such energy and charisma inspired me to have hope in becoming a radio presenter one day.
Sam- Radio Personality Legends 96.6
In the realm of radio broadcasting, there are few names that resonate as profoundly as Ashan Fernando aka “007 SPY.” With his magnetic presence and unparalleled expertise, Ashan carved a niche for himself as one of the most sought-after radio presenters in the country. His charismatic persona and innate ability to entertain catapulted him to stardom, making him a household name in the radio industry.
Karin/Danielle - Former Radio Personality FM 99 and Capital Radio
There was never a dull moment with Ashan Fernando aka spy 007. He lit up a room, he always used to joke that he had “a face for radio”. Never taking himself too seriously he was a joy to work with. That glint in his eye and mischievous smile that he always wore had a way of drawing you in.
Big Al - Former Radio Personality Capital Radio
A live wire from my Capital days. A generous soul you were. A presenter like no other A brother from another mother. Love Afzal.

Feroze/Diamond Deen- Former Radio Personality Capital Radio and Radio Personality and Channel Head - E FM
My journey in radio wouldn’t have been what it was without the foundation he gave me. On a lighter note, the hard work was compensated by the wild parties he introduced me to. Thank you, Spy. Gone, but never forgotten…………
