Posts of principals in 173 National Schools remain vacant and the duties of them are performed either by the vice principals or senior teachers of the staff, Chairman of the All Ceylon United Teachers Union Ven.Yalwela Pagnasekera Thera said.
Colombo Mahanama and Nalanda Colleges were among those National Schools, he said.
The ACUTU Chairman urged Minister of Education G.L Pieris to appoint principals to the relevant schools, stressing the urgent need of appointing principals for the vacant positions as it also affected the administration duties of those schools.
