The education authorities expect to re-schedule fresh dates for the conduct of the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination in March, next year, Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris said yesterday.
According to a video content with the Minister’s remarks, there won’t be any need for further postponement of the examination.
Earlier, the examination had been scheduled to be conducted between January 18 and 27, 2021. However, the Minister said it could not be conducted according to this schedule because of the pandemic. He said there are 10,165 schools in the country, but only 5,100 are open for third term academic activities.
“It means that only 50 percent of schools with Grade 11 classes are open at the moment,” he said.
The Minister said 154 examination centres are located in the areas coming under Colombo 1 to 15. There are 24,000 candidates expected to sit the examination at these centres. However, the Minister said these students could not sit the exam at these places, given the current pandemic situation.

He said only nine days would be sufficient for conclusion of the examination.
