Most polluted locations in Colombo identified

Six locations in Colombo have been identified as highly polluted, according to the real-time Air Quality Index (AQI).   
The air quality near the following locations have been identified as significantly unhealthy, prompting authorities to advise caution:   
 Drivegreen – The Overseas School 2   
 Drivegreen – The Overseas School 1   
 US Embassy in Colombo   
 Laugfs Eco Sri HO   
 OSC Sensor 2 (Gym)   
 R.G. Senanayake Mawatha   
Among these, the air quality is categorized as unhealthy for both the general population and sensitive groups.   
Meanwhile, several areas outside Colombo are also experiencing deteriorating air quality.   
Locations in Puttalam, Chilaw, Negombo, Matale, Dambulla and Galle have been reported to have significantly unhealthy air quality levels.  
Speaking to Daily Mirror, Sarath Premasiri, Senior Scientist of the Air Quality Unit at the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO), the situation is expected to continue in the coming days also.  “As such, individuals susceptible to respiratory ailments are advised to be mindful of this and take early precautions to avoid air interaction,” Premasiri added.
