A man posing as a police officer was arrested by Mount Lavinia Police during a raid carried out in Attidiya. The police, on suspicion checked the man to find that he was wearing a helmet similar to police helmets and that the numberplate of his motorcycle was a fake. Police said the suspect had in his possession 1400 ml.grams of heroin at the time of arrest. The 34- year- old suspect was a resident of Dampe in Piliyandala and a father of two children. Investigations revealed that he had been carrying on with the racket for a long time posing as a police officer. Under interrogation he revealed his involvement in highway robberies in the Dehiwala, Nedimala, Bellanwila, Attidiya, Ratmalana and Moratuwa areas. Police said the suspect had checked motorcycle and bicycle riders including pedestrians and had robbed them of their cash and jewellery.
