I.M.B. Premalal was yesterday appointed as the new Mayor of Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte Municipal Council unopposed, following the election of the previous mayor to parliament.
Since the previous mayor Madhura Withanage was elected to the parliament in the recent election from the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), the post at the MC fell vacant.
A special council on the appointment of the new mayor was convened under the patronage of Western Province Commissioner Kasun Epa Seneviratne.
