The engines of the Sagarika Express Train and the Rajarata Rejini Express Train collided at the Beliatta Railway Station yesterday morning, the Railways Department reported.
Deputy General Manager of Railways (Transportation) M.J. Indipolage told the Daily Mirror that the Rajarata Rejini train, travelling from Beliatta to Anuradhapura, collided with the Sagarika train, which was parked on the wrong track during an engine change.
The Railways Department confirmed that an investigation into the incident has already been initiated.
The Sagarika train sustained severe damage in the collision, making it impossible to be operated.
Additionally, the Rajarata Rejini train, which was scheduled to depart from Beliatta to Anuradhapura at 8:45 a.m. yesterday, experienced delays.
