Officers attached to the Customs Narcotic Control Unit at the BIA Arrival Terminal on suspicion took a foreigner in for questioning when she was about to vacate the airport through Customs (nothing to declare) green channel.
Customs Spokesperson Additional Director General Seevali Arukgoda told the Daily Mirror that the female passenger holding a Thai passport had arrived in the country around 23.30 on Monday on Singapore Airlines flight SQ 468 from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia via Singapore.
The officials found two large boxes of probiotic food supplements from her baggage and when opened there had been five sealed packs each containing a kilogram of Ice. The gross weight of the narcotics was five kilograms.
The Customs has valued the contraband at Rs.100 million with the approximate street value of a gram of Ice being Rs.20,000.
Following preliminary inquiries the 33-year-old suspect along with the contraband had been handed over to the Police Narcotic Bureau (PNB) for further investigations.
