Good lawyers should represent and fight for justice of the murdered eight-year-old girl child, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress Basheer Segu Dawood told her parents on Wednesday.
“I am ready to provide whatever help and assistance you need,” he said
Marhooma M.S Fathima (8) was found sexually abused and unconscious at a house with her hands, feet and mouth tied in a gunny bag, under the bed of the suspect’s house on Wednesday, September 10 in Kuwait Town, Manchanthoduvai. She was pronounced dead when she was admitted to the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital last week.
The Cabinet Minister met the family members of the girl on Wednesday (17).
“The murder of the child had shattered us and also awakened our society,” he said.
“The person who sexually abused the girl cannot escape the law and the Almighty will punish him for the sin,” he said.
Former Member of Kattankudy UC and Propaganda Secretary of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress U.L.M.N Mubeen and many social leaders were present. In the meantime, prayers were held for the girl on Wednesday (17) at Savia Mahalir Vidyalayam Auditorium presided over by the principal Mrs. Abdul Salam.
President of the First Ward Mera Grand Jummah Mosque, President of Federation of Kattankudy Mosques and Muslim Institutions M.I.M Zubair and Secretary of the School Development Society and the members, school teachers including Ameer Ali, family members and many others participated.
Prayers were also conducted by Kattankudy First Ward Besh Grand Jummah Mosque Imam Moulavi M.I.Adam Lebbe Balahi. The, suspect M.I Ramalan was arrested and has been remanded until September 23.
Residents of Manchanthoduvai held a protest in front of the Batticaloa Court last Thursday demanding that no lawyer should represent the suspect in the case.
Tension ran high among the population in Kattankudy following the incident.
According to Police on Wednesday (10) evening, the suspect had gone to the grocery shop, owned by the little girls’ father and had asked for an umbrella as it was raining.
