‘The Solidarity Movement for Justice and Truth’ is a civil movement that was set up three years ago with a vision to apprehend perpetrators involved in carrying out the Easter Sunday attacks and seeking justice for victims. Issuing a statement, the Movement announced a set of demands for people aspiring to cast their vote at the upcoming Presidential Election.
Over 17.1 million voters- including adults, youth, women, men and elderly citizens- have been registered to vote at the upcoming election. Sri Lanka is currently facing various political, economic and social issues. This situation has emerged as a result of errant governance strategies implemented over the years.
People should therefore elect a candidate who has genuine intentions of resolving these crises and someone who could genuinely face prevailing political, economic and social challenges.
The Presidential Elections is being held at a time when a majority of the population is living in dire straits. We are bearing a heavy debt burden and is in a miserable position. Therefore, people should vote for a candidate who is capable of rescuing this country from this miserable, debt-ridden and oppressed state.
There are many factors to consider when electing the most eligible candidate for the post of President.
The President who will be elected on September 22 should have the knowledge and intention to rescue the country from its prevailing situation. He should be intelligent and act with a vision. He should be a law-abiding citizen. The next President should work tirelessly to rescue the country from crimes, poverty, illiteracy and debt.
Voters too have certain factors to keep in mind.
Are you going to believe them and cast your vote to elect corrupt individuals? Do you still believe that these failed politicians would be successful politicians after September 21?
Dear intelligent voters, think with foresight and patience.
Only a leader with a creative, energetic, disciplined vision can rescue people who have already been affected by the war, terrorism, illegal killings, state terrorism, enforced disappearances, torture, Easter Sunday attacks, and failure to seek justice, malnutrition and short-sighted state policies. It is your responsibility to elect such a leader on September 21.We therefore request you to visit the polling station on September 21 and mark your vote in front of a candidate’s name whom you think is the best possible individual who could rescue this country from this disaster.
