Malsha Kumaranatunga, a candidate representing the evergreen Kumaranatunga family, is contesting from the betel leaf from the Colombo District. In an interview with the Daily Mirror she shared her views about certain decisions taken by the party.
QHow are the campaigns progressing?
They are going well. As a woman and a youthful candidate, I have got a great response from the youth.
QWhat do you think about the division among the SLFP party members?
I believe that the situation has got a lot better now. Both, the ex-President and the current President said that people should always think that the party is one.
QThere are many issues that the youth face and one of them is unemployment. The UNFGG manifesto has promised to provide one million jobs to the youth but the SLFP has failed to do so. What comments do you have on this?
If you read our manifesto you will see that we promised to give 15,000 jobs to the youth and also an interest free loan to pursue their higher education. Also after the students have finished their university education, they have been pledged to be given a chance to take up internships in the private sector.
QYou hail from the Kumaranatunga family and being an SLFPer, what side do you take?
I am always with the party. Whatever the decision the party takes, I will respect it and will support it.
... But that is not the case when it comes to CBK. While being an adviser to the SLFP she is now supporting President Maithripala Sirisena. What do you think about this?
I don’t see anything wrong in that. She has a right to support whatever side she wants. That has nothing to do with her being an adviser to the party.
