Since its debut in 1973 and 15 million vehicles produced over the years the Volkswagen Passant has evolved along with time and now into its seventh generation launched in Sri Lanka recently
 

The car comes with a variety of new features such as the rear park assist, Emergency braking, the main beam light assist, traffic sign detection and a lane change warning. These technologies supplement systems already introduced on the previous model which was released in 2005, such as the Lane Assist lane-keeping system and DCC adaptive chassis control. 

 

So, in its technology the Passat is crossing over to the next higher class. It is precisely this technology – and further improvements in workmanship and material quality – that set it apart from its competitors more than ever. Each of these assistance systems operates unobtrusively in background, and of course it is easy to deactivate any of them. 

 

The car’s selling price starts at Rs.8.8 million depending on its features.  It also comes with a two year unlimited mileage warranty.

The car is designed as a long distance touring vehicle and has a 6 speed DSG diesel and a 7 speed DSG petrol gearbox. 

 

Speaking to the Media at the launch Reeza Rauf, Director of sales and marketing at Senok Automobiles who are the agents for Volkswagen said, “in terms of sales, after a lapse of a bad patch we are very thankful to the President for bringing down the custom duty of motor cars in all segments thereby giving an opportunity to automobile retailers and creating a level playing field.”

 

He also said, “With the dawn of peace and the country developing, we hope that the petroleum industry will improve and upgrade its fuel quality and meet the challenges in keeping in line with the requirement of Euro 4 and 5 fuel emission standards which will be a mandatory requirement in the future.”
