Andaradeniya Estate (Pvt.) Ltd, renowned locally and internationally for its long-standing and highly respected involvement in the tea industry, won the Gold award in the value-added tea and associated products category, at the Industrial Excellence Awards, organised by the Industrial Development Board (IDB).
Established in 1983 as a tea leaf collection company, Andaradeniya Estate (Pvt.) Ltd has now grown into a large network of companies that makes a significant contribution to the local economy with 11 tea factories in several districts, mini hydropower plants and solar power systems.
The business network consists of a group of companies, including Andaradeniya Estate (Pvt.) Ltd, Sinharaja Hills Plantation (Pvt.) Ltd, Nivithigala Factories (Pvt.) Ltd, Andaradeniya Holdings (Pvt.) Ltd, Hills Plantation (Pvt.) Ltd, Andaradeniya Tea Estate Ceylon (Pvt.) Ltd and Andaradeniya Mini Hydro Power (Pvt.) Ltd.
The Andaradeniya group, which contributes 2.5 percent to Sri Lanka’s national tea production and produces 8.5 million kilograms of tea annually, provides about 4,000 direct jobs and about 25,000 indirect jobs and engages with nearly 25,000 tea smallholders. The company has also established a group of rural transport agents and young entrepreneurs.
For his business, social and religious activities, since 1983, W. Jinadasa has won many awards at locally and internationally.
“We give priority to the production of high-quality tea, which will upgrade the tea industry, which is a valuable foreign exchange earning resource for the country. I would like to express my gratitude to the fellow board of directors, staff, transport agents and tea smallholders who have contributed to this achievement,” said Dr. Jinadasa.
