BMICH celebrated the World Environment Day planting a variety of saplings in the premises including ‘Hal’ plants.
Hal – Vateria Copallifera is an endemic to Sri Lanka which is powdered and used to make various authentic Sri Lankan food such as Halapa, Pittu, Thalapa, Roti etc.
“We are delighted to have celebrated the World Environment Day as we continuously practice eco-friendly conceptsbeing an urban forest and weoperate an in-house compost pile using the ‘Takakura’ method to manage the daily garbage collected in the premises and we look forward for organic agriculture projects in the premises as well,” said Sunil Dissanayake – Chief Executive, BMICH.
World Environment Day is celebrated to spread awareness about protecting and restoring our planet. Being this year’s theme “Only One Earth”, we need to work collectively towards building the comfort of the planet.
