Holcim Lanka and Bimputh Finance to provide affordable housing

Holcim Lanka, a member of the LafargeHolcim group, a global leader in the construction material industry, recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in partnership with Bimputh Finance PLC, a leading microfinance institution in Sri Lanka, pledging to be the provider for the ‘PoornaNivasi’ affordable housing programme. 


The affordable housing programme is part of LafargeHolcim’s global platform, which aims to make a high social impact by assisting homebuilders with relatively lower incomes to access housing at the most affordable cost. 


Under this programme, beneficiaries are selected from within the communities attached to Bimputh Finance PLC and given access to flexible financial facilities through Bimputh Finance PLC and provided with comprehensive technical facilities via Holcim Lanka.

Holcim (Lanka) Ltd CEO Philippe Richart commenting at the signing of the MoU said, “This project is part of the LafargeHolcim sustainable development strategy, which aims to support 75 million people around the world by 2030. Initiated across 25 countries to support individual homebuilders, who receive a relatively low income with access to housing at an affordable cost, through partnerships with entities such as Bimputh Finance PLC, Holcim Lanka will continue to enhance its offering. It is an honour to see the launch of the ‘PoornaNivasi’ affordable housing programme, which will enrich the lives of these beneficiaries.”

Bimputh Finance PLC will provide guidance on finance management throughout the assessment of the credit facility while reaching the end consumers of both entities positively. 


The PoornaNivasi affordable housing programme has already reached eight districts during the pilot period and aims to penetrate toward the national level by end-2016. The programme will reach the communities with the theme of ‘Lowa Dinana Daruwata – Hisata Savi Sevanak’ (A strong roof for your child to win the world).
