MBD, one of India’s largest education companies and the most prolific book publisher in the country, has donated one thousand copies of Learnwell Science books for Sri Lankan students.

The books were recently handed over to Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam by MBD Sri Lanka Country Manager Jayampathy Arambepola.

The internationally recognised brand of educational books, which has gained a reputation for its wealth of information, has been specifically translated into Sinhala for the benefit of the local student body.

Speaking on behalf of this philanthropic venture, MBD Managing Director Monica Malhotra Kandhari said, “We, at MBD, have made it our mission to provide children with the best in terms of educational material. The reputed Learnwell books, which are available in 40 countries for students from grade one to 10, have superseded the rest. We are pleased to introduce the innovative concepts to the Sri Lankan students who will have the privilege to learn science from a text book, which is on par with international standards.”

Last year, MBD donated science books worth Rs.1 million to the Colombo Municipal Council on the latter’s celebration of 150 years of service. Parallely four of MBD’s authors sponsored a science symposium, which was conducted in Colombo.

MBD also donated two e-learning classrooms to Nakkawatta Central College in Kuliyapitiya and Gannethena Maha Vidyalaya in Hingula Mawanella as part of the group’s objective is to encourage Sri Lankan students to venture into e-learning.

The Learnwell brand is owned by the MBD group, which is an ISO 9001:2008 certified company and one of India’s largest education companies with more than six decades of experience in the domain. Having established itself in 40 countries including Sri Lanka, it continues to gain momentum throughout the world due to a growing demand from teachers and parents who have realized its potential as a captivating text book, which teaches the subject matter with ease and interest. Moreover, the book carries an internationally accepted new structure in teaching and learning for the teachers and students alike.

At present, all the Learnwell branded books in science, mathematics and IT have been accepted as additional reading books for our students by the Secretary, Publication and Advisory Board of the Sri Lanka Education Ministry. Subsequently, this would enable students to gain access to these valuable books and 90 more additional books for reading and knowledge gathering through the school libraries authorised to purchase them.

The specific approval was granted after a thorough research by the erudite scholars and educationists of Sri Lanka. The most significant fact is the availability of this international publication to the Sri Lankan students who have the privilege of reading it in the vernacular. The Sri Lankan students are bound to benefit from this endeavour, which incorporates a vast amount of additional knowledge, which is on par with international standards.

The MBD group is a leading education company with its presence across the globe and publishes 50 million books a year and around 30 million notebooks.
