CIC Holdings PLC Supports AOCMF Course on Craniomaxillofacial Fracture Management 2014

CIC Holdings PLC recently supported yet another International medical training initiative in Sri Lanka, by providing financial and logistical support for the AOCMF Course – Principles of Craniomaxillofacial Fracture Management. Hosted in Sri Lanka for the second time, the course was attended by a network of healthcare professionals who were updated on the latest techniques in patient care for trauma or disorders of the musculoskeletal system. 






Craniomaxillofacial injuries and deformities affect the face, jaw, mouth and skull and require specialist care and treatment. The three-day training course was conducted by the AO Foundation to provide medical experts in Sri Lanka with the latest information and insights on Craniomaxillofacial fracture management. The course was facilitated by Dr. Gopal Krishan, Course Director, AOCFM and Dr.D.K. Dias, Course Local Chair, AOCMF as well as a team of medical experts from across the region.


The course highlighted the four key principles of fracture management starting with approaches to fracture reduction and fixation to restoring anatomical relationships. The course also focused on fracture fixation techniques and showed participants how to provide absolute or relative stability for fractures to heal. Finally participants were shown how to ensure the preservation of the blood supply to soft tissues surrounding the fracture and learnt how to carefully handle the injury during a patient’s recovery.



The course was directed with the objective of teaching the theoretical basics and practical principles of the operative treatments required for orthognathic surgery. Targeting medical professionals who deal with musculoskeletal maxillofacial deformities, trauma and reconstruction, the course provided an in-depth understanding of the correct treatment measures to take when assisting patients with fractures. Participants were able to learn about the biology of bone healing and understand the best methods, techniques and management approaches required to successfully treat Craniomaxillofacial fractures.
