Fems, the only sanitary napkin in Sri Lanka to receive SLS Certification

The ceremonious handing over of the SLS certificate took place on the 25th of June at the Hilton Hotel, Colombo. The occasion was graced by the management of the Sri Lankan Standards Institution (SLSI), members of the staff of Hemas Manufacturing Pvt Ltd, as well as a large gathering of media personnel.

Speaking at the press conference, renowned health professional and Chief Instructress at the National Hospital, Pushpa Ramyani de Soysa, stressed on the importance of feminine hygiene in the empowering of woman to carry out their multiple roles and responsibilities. She also added that she is proud to endorse Fems and be associated with a brand such as Fems, which is committed to offering trusted, high quality, well designed products.  

The SLS certificate was handed over by the Chairman of SLSI, Dr. Kithsiri Dissanayake to Roy Joseph, Managing Director of Hemas Manufacturing Pvt Ltd. Expressing his views, Dr. Dissanayake mentioned that the SLSI has been working with Hemas on product certification on many Hemas brands over a long period of time. Director General SLSI, Dr .L N Senaweera stated,   “We are happy to award the SLS certification to Fems which is currently the only sanitary napkin brand to hold the certification”.

Expressing her views on the SLS certification process, Deputy Director General SLSI,  Ms. Satharasinghe said,  “The criteria for the SLS certification for sanitary napkins includes  the use of permitted raw materials, absorbency levels, pH levels / skin friendliness, hygienic manufacturing conditions and quality of finished products. Fems has met and conformed to all these criteria and is absolutely safe”.  

Commenting on the maintenance of high-quality standards, Managing Director of Hemas Manufacturing Pvt Ltd, Roy Joseph stated, “We pride ourselves in understanding our Sri Lankan consumers and providing them with  innovative, superior quality products. These attributes form an integral part of our vision in enriching the lives of our consumers. The SLS certification on the Fems Brand, is yet another milestone in our journey to provide our consumers with trusted high quality products; products that will enrich and enhance their lives”.  

Also speaking at the press conference, Group Product Manager for Fems Ms. Shamali Perera said, “The new range of Fems sanitary napkins have been designed to cater to the evolving needs of the Sri Lankan consumer. These napkins can absorb 40% more than other napkins in Sri Lanka and therefore provides consumers with confidence of leak protection. The napkins are also designed to suit the climatic conditions in Sri Lanka and therefore provides superior comfort to consumers”.

She further said, “Fems is manufactured at our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility at Dankotuwa where a huge investment was made recently, and it is one of Sri Lanka’s largest and most advanced production plants in Sri Lanka. The SLS certification which was received today is a confirmation of the strict quality standards and hygienic conditions to provide consistent and guaranteed quality products to the consumer”.

In addition to SLS, the Fems sanitary napkin plant has also received GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) certification.
Fems is certified by Cosmetics Devices and Drugs Authority (CDDA), Sri Lanka Standards Institute (SLSI) and ISO 9001- GMP, thus ensuring a high-quality, safe and hygienically processed product.
