Finlay Rentokil Ceylon (Pvt) Ltd, a subsidiary of Finlays Colombo PLC, was recently awarded the prestigious ISO 9001: 2008 certification for excellence in Quality Management Systems certifying timber preservation by a vacuum pressure impregnation process and using wood preservatives – a process that is unique in the market. This award was made by the Sri Lanka Standards Institution.

Left to Right – Mr. Nishantha Mohotti, CEO Finlay Rentokil Ceylon (Pvt) Ltd, Mr. Charuntheodore, Sales & Marketing, Mr. Ranil Jayawardene, Manager and Mr. Gamini Dharmawardene, Director Systems Certification Division, Sri Lanka Standards Institution.

In a statement issued Ranil Jayawardene, Manager of the subsidiary’s timber preservation and pallet manufacturing divisions, said that he was proud to have his division issued the QMS certification as it is a reflection of the company’s commitment to delivering consistent, reliable and environmentally friendly services and products through efficiency in systems and processes. Jayawardene adds that long term preservation of timber not only reduces overall costs but also helps reduce the need for further felling as the timber lasts longer. Moreover, imported species of lower grade timber can be used freely after the specialised treatment, thereby reducing the need for the use of the higher grade timber available locally which in turn lessens the need for the felling of trees.

The timber preservation division of Finlay Rentokil commenced commercial operations in 1992 with the setting up of a purpose built plant in Wattala and under license from Celcure SDN BHD , Malayasia. Celcure are manufacturers of plants and wood preservatives, and chemicals, for preservation of wood.

Finlay Rentokil Ceylon (Pvt) Ltd., commenced operations in Sri Lanka in 1981 and is a pioneer in providing such services as pest control (under franchise from Rentokil PLC of the UK), hygiene services, medical waste disposal (“Sterifirst”) together with the timber preservation and pallet manufacture divisions.
