Hayleys gets the balance right at the Best Corporate Citizen Awards 2010

Hayleys PLC walked away with the Best Corporate Citizen Award this Wednesday (November 03) at the Best Corporate Citizens Awards 2010.
The runners up in were Hatton National Bank (1st runner-up) and MAS Intimates (2nd runner-up).
The Awards, conducted by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, for the 7th consecutive year, honoured the Corporate Community in their efforts to promote Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Sustainable Business at a gala awards ceremony at Oak Room, Cinnamon Grand. Prof. G.L. Peiris, Minister of External Affairs graced the occasion as the Chief Guest with the Keynote speech been delivered by Prof. Mohan Munasinghe, Co-Laureate of the 2007 Nobel Prize for Peace.
Five category winners for Environment, Customer Relations, Employee Relations, Community Relations and Economic Performance as well as the top 10 best corporate citizens also received awards that evening. The top three places for the 'under 10bn turnover category' were awarded as well.
The winner for the Employee Relations category was Hatton National Bank while Colombo Dockyard PLC was the winner in the Governance and Economic Contribution category.
Hayleys walked away with the award for the Customer/ Supplier Relations category and Aitken Spence received the award for Community Relations & CSR. MAS Intimates bagged the award in the Environment category.
Aviva NDB Insurance won the "Best Corporate Citizen Award" for the 'under 10bn turnover' category, with Link Natural Products and People's Leasing Co. Ltd as 1st and 2nd runners up respectively.
The top 10 Best Corporate Citizens comprised, in alphabetical order, Aitken Spence PLC, Aviva NDB Insurance, Cargills (Ceylon) PLC, Ceylon Biscuits Limited, Colombo Dockyard PLC, Hatton National Bank PLC, Hayleys PLC, HSBC, MAS Intimates (Pvt) Ltd and Sri Lanka Telecom PLC.
The Awards for Special Projects went to CIC Agribusiness, DFCC Bank and Microsoft Sri Lanka., while Merit Certificates were awarded to Hameedia Stores, HSBC, Orange Electric, Ceylon Biscuits, Heritance Kandalama and Hidellana Tea Factory.
The main objective of the Awards is to encourage enterprises to focus on sustainability of business and to adopt CSR practices.
