The ceremonial session of the 56th Annual General Meeting of the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka will be held on January 20, at Kingsbury Hotel, Colombo commencing at 6 pm.
The Chief Guest for the occasion will be Public Administration, Democratic Rule & Buddha Sasana Minsier Karu Jayasuriya. Minister Jayasuriya had been a Past President of the National Chamber and the Chamber is delighted to receive him soon after his new appointment. The Guest of Honour will be IMF Resident Representative for Sri Lanka & Maldives Dr. Eteri Kvintradze, who will address the audience.
The National Chamber was formed just after Sri Lanka gained independence in 1948 with a clear objective of developing the indigenous business houses and to become the voice of the Sri Lankan enterprises particularly in the early independent period when Ceylonisation of business and commerce was needed.
Even today, the National Chamber has a greater focus on Sri Lankan enterprises and has a distinct programme to uplift small and medium industries. The Chamber has 630 corporate members and over 1000 SMEs connected throughout the island.
