Lankem Consumer Products Ltd, a subsidiary of Lankem Ceylon PLC, recently commissioned its brand new laundry soap plant at its manufacturing complex in Sapugaskanda, thereby taking yet another step into the future.

Lankem Ceylon PLC Director Ruwan T. Weerasinghe said, “After months of hard work, we are proud and delighted with this achievement and the outcome of the facility. This Rs.70 million state-of-the-art laundry soap plant is on par with any international standard and has a capacity of producing 15 MT per shift. With the commissioning of this facility we are geared to creating a new dimension in the Sri Lankan laundry soap market by offering a product with germicidal properties and setting a new standard in the laundry category which will, in turn, improve the quality of life of all Sri Lankans.”

Lankem Sunny Double Active soap is currently marketed in two variants: Yellow soap with a rustic and woody/floral fragrance and White soap with jasmine fragrance. They both contain germicidal properties unheard of in the category before.

“Laundry soap is the single largest category in the laundry business in Sri Lanka and this state-of-the-art plant is capable of producing high quality laundry soap tablets. It also gives Lankem total control of all the inputs which will help us deliver a superior product to the Sri Lankan consumer,” Weerasinghe added.

Lankem Consumer Products Ltd has over the years won the hearts of many Sri Lankan households by producing and marketing quality, value-for-money products. In its portfolio are ‘Teepol’, Sri Lanka’s first liquid detergent, ‘Bubble’, the first laundry detergent powder for washing machines and ‘Fenol’, the only disinfectant in the country which kills escherichia coli (ecoli). With the commissioning of this plant, Lankem is now poised to create a revolution in Sri Lanka’s launder soap industry.
