The Indian School of Business (ISB) and Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Colombo, to facilitate professional training in Sri Lanka.

Thriving to be an internationally top-ranked, research-driven, independent management institution that grooms future leaders for India and the world, ISB has formed academic alliances with the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, London Business School (LBS), MIT Sloan School of Management and The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, bringing the best of global management practices and thinking into its curriculum.

The MoU would bring about training sessions for Sri Lanka, customdesigned by ISB for senior managers. This is a critical area as far as corporate trainings are concerned as there are not many skills building progremmes for top level officials provided locally. SLIM will facilitate these sessions locally ensuring the highest rate of success.

Furthermore, ISB will be conducting joint programmes and workshops and will be providing consultation services for Sri Lankan companies from the panel of ISB resource personnel. SLIM will also be canvassing students to ISB from Sri Lanka.

Present at the MoU signing were SLIM President Tilan Wijeyesekera, Deepak Chandra the Dean of ISB, Sanath Senanayake CEO/ED-SLIM, Kalana Rathnayake, Vice President (Education)-SLIM Imal Fonseka, CEO of Munchee Foods and ISB faculty members.

Ranked No: 20 in the Global Top MBA rankings 2012 (Financial Times, London), ISB has displayed its commitment to creating business leaders through its innovative programmes, outstanding faculty and thought leadership.

SLIM President Wijeyesekera said that this initiative provides a great opportunity for Sri Lankan corporates to train and upgrade the staff and be in par with world leaders in executive education.

The Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) founded in 1970 (then called Ceylon Institute of Marketing) with a view to harness the available skills in marketing for the growth and development of the profession, was subsequently incorporated by Act 41 of 1980 of the Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.

SLIM has created a professional educational career path in marketing commencing from the entry level, preliminary certificate in marketing going right up to MBA covering a gamut of disciplines in marketing such as, brand, sales and pharmaceutical.

In addition to providing professional marketing education, as the national body for marketing, SLIM encourages best practices in marketing through national level events such as Brand Excellence which recognizes the most successful brands, Effie awards, the most effective advertising, NASCO, the sales excellence and People’s Awards which recognizes the “people’s choice”. These events not only enhance the image of the marketing profession but also create pathways for more marketers to reach the boardroom level.
