Etisalat Lanka, the fastest growing mobile network in Sri Lanka hosts the Mashable Social Media Day in Colombo for the 3rd consecutive year and is been listed among the top 8 Social Media Day events in the world  

Mashable, the world’s leading information and resource platform for the Connected Generation ranks the top eight global Social Media Day events to attend; recognizing it as a highly sought after event due to the credible and in-depth topics addressed at the forum.

The Mashable Social Media Day is an annual global celebration of the digital revolution taking place in the world; which had its inception in 2010. Each year in June, thousands of people organize meetups across the world, to be part of this global movement.
Etisalat Lanka together with Neo@Ogilvy has been the host and driver in organizing the Social Media Day in Sri Lanka for three consecutive years, including this year’s Social Media Day, which will be held on the 29th of June 2014 at Park Premier, Excel World.

The theme for Social Media Day 2014 shall be; ‘Safe and Responsible use of Social Media’. This year’s event shall see speakers from the Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (SLCERT), a government agency that helps citizens affected by computer crimes and online scams and a representative from the Ministry of Mass Media and Information. Other highlights include a panel of self-made entrepreneurs who will share their expertise on using Social Media to drive businesses. There will also be an awards ceremony to recognize key influences of different Social Media platforms in Sri Lanka.

A first ever crowd sourced song titled #apesinduwa; which has already received over 500 lyric contributions from the local Facebook and Twitter community; will be launched at Social Media Day 2014, Colombo.
Statistics show that 20% of the Sri Lanka’s population has access to the internet. Of this number, 2.4 million Sri Lankans are actively engaging on Facebook and approximately 40,000 on Twitter. All these are indications of a Sri Lanka that is moving swiftly towards an empowered and able social media culture.
