Thirty-member Sri Lankan delegation for Spikes Asia

The Spikes Asia festival will be held in Singapore from September 15-17, featuring an extensive programme filled with seminars, workshops, academies, networking, awards and entertainment. This event is promoted by Metal Factor and the Association of Accredited Advertising Agencies (4A’S).

This year, Sri Lanka will be represented by a delegation of 30 including a juror, a student participating in the Academy, 2 teams competing in the Young Spikes Competitions, and a single team participating in the Agency Shoot Out. There will be over 10 entries competing in about 20 plus categories.

The two winning teams, consisting of two members each will represent Sri Lanka at the Young Spikes contest at Spikes Asia 2013, and there was a total of 54 young advertising professionals who participated in a local competition, from which the winners were chosen. The teams were issued a brief on two subjects, which were to educate children and adults on the rights of a child, and the second subject was to promote the MBC Yes FM mobile app. Teams had to submit a response to the brief by the end of the day and on the second day of the campaign, they were required to complete the campaign and execute them with available facilities.

Yes FM sponsored this competition, and it was conducted in a 2-tier process where the finalists made presentations in front of an audience.

“Spikes Asia is the Cannes festival for Asia and Sri Lanka has been a part of this event for a decade now. We hope that the teams will perform creditably and make its mark at this prestigious festival. We are grateful to MTV and Yes FM, for the support for Young Spikes Asia,” stated Ranil de Silva who is the Sri Lanka representative for Metal Factor.

The winners of the Media Competition are Dexter Shadrach and Infas Iqbal of Phoenix O&M, while the winners of the Integrated Competition are Induwarani Munasinghe and Chani Perera of Leo Burnett. Sahil Gunasekere, of the Academy of Design is the only Sri Lankan student to have won a place at the Young Creative Academy at Spikes Asia in Singapore. Ralston Joseph and Mudith Jayasekera will represent JWT at the Spikes Asia Print Shoot Out, and Russell Miranda, the Executive Creative Director for Grant McCann Erickson is nominated to serve on the Film Craft Jury for the Spikes Asia 2013.

MBC Networks collaborates with Metal Factor for the fifth consecutive year and have been partners for the competition ever since the first Young Spikes conducted in Sri Lanka. They have continued to support Metal Factor and the advertising industry with this programme.
