Green party’s Madduma of Uva already handling public administration and two other subjects at top team level had been asking for some time that he be given a subject which would enable him to take a direct hand in the country’s development. However, he had been highly disappointed that his request had gone unheeded.

He had made this request in strong terms once again to the party leadership quite recently.

The Green leadership convinced of the importance of keeping everyone in the party ranks happy at this critical hour recommended to Number One that Madduma be assigned the subject of Rural Economy as well.

Number One who has no dispute with Madduma readily assigned the subject to him.

After being duly sworn in to the new portfolio, Madduma had discovered to his dismay that no important institution had been gazetted under the new Ministry and only some economic centres had been brought under its purview.  A highly dejected Madduma had called a secretarial one of Number Two and told him that he did not want the new portfolio assigned to him.

He had also told the media that he declined to accept the portfolio adding: “There’s nothing much I can do with it.”
