There is a purohita at state level elected to Diyawanna from an upcountry district known for its cool climate.
He is said to be avoiding public functions in the area and would not even attend a wedding held in the evening hours.
Some inquisitive ones who had made indiscreet inquiries why this politico who, by the way, had to face an untoward incident on a bridge in his area recently, was fighting shy of the public, had stumbled on the reason, they say.
Most of the people in his district are peasants who eke out a living by farming. These farmers are said to be in a nasty mood these days due to the unavailability of fertilizer. They are so angry they would castigate in choice Sinhala any Diyawanna member or purohita if they happen to come across them.
So, this purohita is holding himself aloof from the people in the area given the possibility of getting a mouthful to his face from some angry farmer, they say.
