As part of its commitment to giving back to the community, AIA Insurance constructed a brand new building for the Uduwela, Watuliyadda Primary School in Kandy.
This was the fifth project under AIA’s ‘Lend a Hand’ initiative, intended at uplifting the lives of children who are less privileged.
With 15 teachers and 248 students, from grade one up till grade five, the school’s building was old, run-down and had insufficient space for separate classrooms. Thereby, all students were forced to study in one hall, which was an unconducive studying environment. With the new building built by AIA, there are four separate class-rooms, to enable a more favourable learning atmosphere.
The school building was inaugurated by AIA’s Deputy CEO Upul Wijesinghe and Director HR Thushari Perera as well as Senior Assistant General Manager of the Kandy Branch Senaka Rajapakse.
“We take great pleasure in being able to provide a better learning environment for these students because we believe that a good education is the best way to empower our future generations,” said Upul Wijesinghe.
Thushari Perera added: “AIA’s ‘Lend a Hand’ programme is designed to give back to the community. This is the fifth year of this project which is a key milestone in our corporate responsibility journey and we look forward to continuing in the years to come.”
