People’s Bank, with the aim of enabling students to experience digital banking, unveiled a school banking unit, which includes an NFC enabled Cash Deposit Machine at Dharmaraja College, Kandy, recently. Present on the occasion was Mr. Jagath Karunaratne, Mr. K. M. R. Konara Narampanawa, and Mrs. Renuka Premathilaka, Deputy Principals of Dharmaraja College, Kandy, K. B. Rajapaksa - Senior DGM – Retail Banking, D. M. D. Dissanayake - Regional Manager, People’s Bank Kandy Region and Assistant Regional Managers, Janak Jayasinghe - Branch Manager, Kandy; along with The People’s Bank Staff, Academic Faculty and a large number of students.
People’s Bank’s objective in installing a school banking unit at Dharmaraja College, Kandy is to allow students to conduct transactions safely using digital technology; whilst encouraging a savings habit.
People’s Bank hopes to cultivate the savings habit amongst students, instilling them with a skill that can brighten their future. In fact, since 1971, People’s Bank has been inculcating this habit among school children; successfully installing its very first school banking unit at Ananda College in 2018.
Through the assistance of the school banking unit established, students are now able to deposit funds into their 'Sisu Udana’ accounts without the hassle of paperwork and check their account balance as well. To deposit money, Students received a handy NFC card, which displays a photograph of themselves, their name and student ID number.
