As second year undergraduate students from the Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Colombo, we are conducting a community development project where this project was established with the intention of understanding the importance of social awareness and responsibility of the younger generation for the development of our community.
Project Engage-Better is an initiative brought up by Team Ignitors which consists of sixteen individuals who are committed to design an E-Library system for an underprivileged school PU/ANA/Shanthiputhra Maha Vidyalaya, current status of the school - 442 students,24 teachers and one library which consists of 2400 books.
E-library system is designed with the use of Microsoft Access which could assist the librarians and this could be an effective implementation to transform the manual library system into a computerized system, along with the designed e-library system we are providing a laptop computer which facilitates them to access the e-library system and necessary book racks will be also provided to the school as well. We will be also promoting this E-Library system to other selected schools which have computer facilities by distributing the system through CDs where they can copy the system in their computers and start using, these CDs will be distributed to the schools via SriLankan Post. Proper guidance and instructions will be given to the schools via a video tutorial and booklet.
When it comes to Sustainability of the Project, this particular system allows there to be no loss of book / member records which usually happens when a non-computerised system is used along with that enhances the security and accuracy of information. The system relatively simple and compatible with the most of the computer models, we believe this system will grant long lasting benefits to the coming generations and allowing the schools for knowledge sharing and environmental friendly as well. We are able to complete this project by the last week of the month of April and we thank everyone who supported us throughout the Project completion period.
