Supun Athukorala, a promising poet of the new generation, launched his second book on poetry and prose titled “Sarada Nuba Tharu Wela” at the Mahaweli Centre in Colombo 07, recently.
The Chief Guest of the event was Sujeewa Rajapakse – Chairman of People’s Bank and The Guest of Honour of the event was Ranjith Kodituwakku - Chief Executive Officer/General Manager of People’s Bank. The audience included several other distinguished guests as well as experts in the field, writers, poets, artists, literary critics, journalists and readers.
Well-known literary scholar Chulananda Samaranayake delivered the keynote address while popular poets, Sunanda Karunarathne and Lahiru Kithalagama also addressed the gathering. Famous show host Saman Jayarathna performed the role of ‘Master of Ceremonies’ during the event.
An emerging voice on the Sri Lankan poetry circuit, Supun has successfully connected with his audiences through the ingenuity and creativity of his poetic works inspired by subjects ranging from love, hatred, emotions, nature and more, thereby finding a place in the souls of many people.
With a passion for writing, Supun has nurtured a deeper connection with words from his childhood which prompted him to launch his inaugural collection of poems through his book titled “Premayata Idak Etha” in 2017 in which he introduced his poetic prowess to his readers.
