Through a partnership with the Woodland Trust, The Body Shop is helping to build multiple mini bio-bridges in the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley, an ancient woodland on the English-Welsh border. This project may also benefit one of the UK’s rarest mammals, the pine marten

British skincare and beauty brand with a heart, The Body Shop, is saying ‘thank you!’ to all of its loyal customers in Sri Lanka for personally gifting over 10 million square metres of forest throughout the festive season!

A brand synonymous with social activism through its involvement in causes from community trade to animal testing, The Body Shop has also been involved in the fight to protect natural habitats.
With 80% of the world’s population projected to live in urban areas by 2050, and 230 million hectares of forest predicted to disappear in the same year if no action is taken, it is more important than ever for us to reconnect with nature and protect our wildlife for future generations.

In a humble attempt to restore the damage done forests the world over, The Body Shop launched its World Bio-Bridges Mission, aiming to help protect and ‘re-wild’ 75 million square metres of habitat, and to build 10 bio-bridges by 2020.

‘Bio-bridges’ are restored wildlife corridors in damaged landscapes that help endangered species to reconnect, breed and thrive again. If it weren’t for any action, wildlife is at risk of becoming increasingly isolated and restricted to small pockets of disconnected woodland. Bio-bridges help protect crucial habitat for some of the world’s most threatened species, and will in turn benefit community development as well as biodiversity conservation. The common aim is to maintain, or increase, biodiversity, while reducing the impact of present and past human interventions through the restoration of species and ecological processes.

Together with the World Land Trust, The Body Shop is supporting the protection of the Caucasus Wildlife Refuge, a reserve located in a biodiversity hotspot in the Ararat province, Armenia. The reserve protects crucial habitat for some of Armenia’s most threatened species, including the Caucasian lynx and leopard.

As part of The Body Shop’s World Bio-Bridges Mission, every purchase of a product or gift pack from the beauty brand’s shelves in December, including the limited edition Enchanted by Nature line released for the cause, contributed towards regenerating the planet - more specifically the fast-diminishing forest in the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean, UK, and the Caucasus Wildlife refuge in the Ararat province, Armenia.

While the season of gifting may be over, showing someone that we care is not bound by the dates of a calendar. Take a walk through the The Body Shop’s nature-inspired, limited edition Enchanted by Nature gift packs and products. Choose from the fruity Berry Bon Bon range, or the refreshing and uplifting scents of the Peppermint Candy Cane line. Even take in the sweet, warm sensation that only the Vanilla and Marshmallow products can bring. Whichever your pick, be rest assured that with every purchase from The Body Shop, you too are involved in the fight to fix our planet.
