Twelve Sri Lankan shuttlers will be in action at the Yonex-Sunrise Bangladesh International Challenge 2024, which is now in progress at the Bangabandhu National Stadium Complex in Paltan, Dhaka.
Among them are seven boys and five girls, who will compete under Men’s and Women’s Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles.
The seven boys in action are Viren Nettasinghe, ranked among the top five, Dumindu Abeywickrama, Aashinsa Herath, Siyath Senaratne, Dinura Priyashan, Oshamika Karunaratne and Thulith Palliyaguru.
The five girls featured are Rashmi Mudalige, Varangana Jayawardana, Panchali Adhikari, Isuri Attanayake and Sithumi de Silva.
Nettasinghe and Abeywickrama will start off in the Men’s Singles from the Round of 32 while Aashinsa Herath has been slated to begin his campaign from the Round of 64.
All three girls competing in the Women’s Singles - Mudalige, Jayawardana and Adhikari will begin their campaign from the Round of 32.
Sri Lanka will also compete in the three Doubles segments with five pairs in contention. Priyashan and Senaratne and Karunaratne and Palliyaguru are drawn in the Men’s Doubles while the two teams competing under Women’s Doubles will be Jayawardana and Mudalige and Attanayake and de Silva.
In addition, Palliyaguru and Adhikari will pair up to compete in the Mixed Doubles.
A total of 228 shuttlers from 24 countries will be in action at the five-day tournament conducted by the Bangladesh Badminton Federation and sanctioned by the Badminton World Federation.
