Reigning world snooker champion Muhammad Asif of Pakistan along with Kamal Chawla (India) and Muhammad Naseem Akthar (Pakistan) maintained their unbeaten record on day two of the 3rd SAARC Snooker Championship at the Moors SC in Colombo yesterday.
Asif overcame Ahmed Nizamuddin (Bangladesh) by four frames to one while Chawla recorded two wins against Ayesh Gautam (Nepal) in the morning session and Asif Raman (Bangladesh) in the evening session.
Akthar coasted to comfortable win over Sri Lanka’s Mohamed Musharaf.
Sri Lanka’s Susantha Boteju who suffered a loss on day one bounced back to record two consecutive wins against India’s Paras Gupta and his compatriot Musharaf.
Four cueists Muhammad Asif (Pakistan), Irshath Thaha (Sri Lanka), Kamal Chawla (India) and Muhammad Naseem Akthar (Pakistan) are almost assured of a quarter- final berth after the round robin matches completed so far.
The quarter-finals are scheduled to be played today from 10.00 a.m. and the two semi-finals in the evening from 4.00 p.m.
