This December, South Australia is set to host the area’s largest Sri Lankan school cricket tournament, “Adelaide 6xers”, one of the leading sporting events for the local Sri Lankan community.

Scheduled to take place on Saturday, December 7th at Glenunga’s Webb Oval and Margaret Oval, the tournament will see eight of Sri Lanka’s most prestigious schools come together in an epic day of sport. The participating schools boast a rich history in the sport and a long-standing reputation for producing world-class cricketers.

“The Adelaide 6xers is the largest Sri Lankan schools cricket tournament ever held in South Australia, marking a historical milestone for the Sri Lankan community in the region. Taking place on December 7th at the Glenunga Hub, this event brings together alumni from eight prestigious Sri Lankan schools,” shared Event Media Coordinator and Journalist, Chathura Ranasinghe.

“It celebrates Sri Lanka’s unparalleled cricketing legacy while fostering unity among the diaspora in South Australia. The tournament is also a glimpse into the future, with plans to elevate it into a franchise-level event and an essential fixture on South Australia’s sports calendar next year.”

On the day, games kick off 9:30am, with teams split into Group A: Nalanda College, Ananda College, Isipathana College, D.S. Senanayake College, and Group B: St. Peter’s College, St. John’s College, Royal College and Bandaranayake College. Between the two group fixtures, twelve games will run over the day, making sure there are plenty of action to keep everyone entertained.

“Spectators are encouraged to come and experience the live action at the Glenunga Hub. The tournament is designed to be a community-focused, family-friendly event, complete with food stalls and entertainment. While in-person attendance is emphasised, plans are underway to live-stream the matches for cricket enthusiasts worldwide who cannot make it to Adelaide.”

The tournament is organised by the Nalanda Old Boys’ Association of South Australia (Nalanda OBA), and is a true community event, celebrating their love for the sport. The event will showcase some of Sri Lanka’s finest rising talents while fostering an environment for everyone to enjoy a brilliant day of sport.

“The Adelaide 6xers is more than a tournament—it’s a celebration of culture, tradition, and sportsmanship. Beyond the matches, the event aims to build stronger ties within the Sri Lankan community and create a legacy for future tournaments. It’s a day of rivalries, camaraderie, and nostalgia, where the spirit of Sri Lankan cricket comes alive on South Australian soil,” Chathura said.

South Australia’s summer of cricket continues with major events at Adelaide Oval, including the Men’s Day Night Test Series: Australia v India on December 6th, the Adelaide Strikers playing in the BBL over various dates in December and January, the CommBank Women’s T20I v England on January 25th, and many more.
