Air Force SC prevailed to clinch the Plate title of the Nippon Rugby League, edging Police SC 11-05 in their final league match played at Police Park on Friday.
The Airmen held a slender 3-0 lead at half-time, before adding a try and another penalty by full-time.
Police managed a solitary try.
In a tight first-half, it took 25 minutes before the first points were scored, when Flyhalf Nuwan Perera put over a penalty.
It was closely contested in the second half as well, with Air Force extending their lead through a second penalty from Perera.
Air Force SC Fullback Rumesh Ramadas then barged over through a melee for a corner-flag try, though Perera was unable to convert it.
He also missed a penalty that was awarded a few minutes later.
Police SC fought back with their No. 8 Heshan Tilekeratne scoring an unconverted try, but they couldn’t push on with Air Force holding on to win.
