Sri Lanka began their campaign in the Billie Jean King Cup by BNP Paribas Asia-Oceania Group 2 women’s tennis tournament on a winning note with a convincing 3-0 win over Brunei in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
Hasali Gajaba and Rukshika Wijesuriya won the two singles matches by two sets to nil while the pair of Janali Manamperi and Wijesuriya came out on top with the same winning margin.
Brunei along with Darussalam, Guam, Mongolia, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka and host Tajikistan are the countries vying for honours.
Singles: Hasali Gajaba (Sri Lanka) beat Tan-Jia Hui (Tajikistan) 2-0 (6/0, 6/0), Rukshika Wijesuriya (Sri Lanka) beat Chong Ming Rui (Tajikistan) 2-0 (6/0, 6/1).
Doubles: Janali Manamperi/Rukshika Wijesuriya (Sri Lanka) beat Chong Ming Rui/Tan-Jia Hui (Tajikistan) 2-0 (6/1, 6/1).
