St. Peter’s were too good for St. Anthony’s, as they coasted to a convincing 39-nil win in the Super Round encounter of the Dialog Schools Rugby League tournament played at St. Peter’s ground in Bambalapitiya Friday (11).

The Peterites, having taken a comfortable 29-0 lead at the breather, accumulated their points through three goals, three tries, and a penalty.

The outcome was visible at the stoppage of the first session, as the Eagles were never given a chance by the Bamba Brigade, who virtually dominated the game in both sessions.

In fact, they didn’t make much effort in the second half. Still, they succeeded in planting two unconverted tries in the 64th minute by Ranjith Ridmal and another in the dying stages of the match by Kushan Tharindu, which sealed the game for Bamba Brigade with ease.

The first half saw St. Peter’s taking their cool time and not in a hurry as they took things easily before opening up in the 11th minute with Dimeth Ranasinghe going over for an unconverted try.

They surged ahead 11 minutes later from a penalty booted over by Yumeth Shihara. The Peterites continued their attack and had the Antonians struggling for survival as they went on a scoring spree, with skipper Ashen Madugasge leading the way as he went over for two tries within the space of six minutes.

Shihara continued his kicking form by converting the two tries before Sudesh Jayawickrama sizzled through the Antonians’ defence to plant a try under the post, which gave Shihara an easy kick at goal for the Petertes to take a comfortable 29-0 lead going into the break. Referee: Ishanka Abeykoon
