Defending League Champions CR & FC kicked off the 2024/2025 rugby season in style, securing a commanding 43-13 victory over newcomers Sri Lions Sports Club under lights at Longdon Place last night. The Red Shirts displayed their championship pedigree with six tries, five conversions, and one penalty, while Sri Lions managed two tries and a penalty.
At halftime, CR held a comfortable 22-8 lead.

Despite a shaky first 10 minutes, CR quickly found their rhythm and showcased excellent coordination, making full use of their three-quarter line. Even after losing two players to yellow cards, Adeesha Weerathunga, Mursheed Doray, and Venura Kodagoda delivered standout performances for the home side.

Sri Lions, although outclassed, fought valiantly and maintained their intensity for the full 80 minutes. Their captain Kevin Dixon and flanker Nizran Mohamed were exceptional, contributing significantly to their team's efforts.

The game began with Sri Lions taking an early lead through a penalty by Kevin Dixon in the second minute. CR responded almost immediately, with Adeesha Weerathunga scoring a try, converted by Mursheed Doray. The Red Shirts continued their dominance, with brothers Randy and Rinesh scoring a try each, both converted by Doray, who also added a penalty to his tally in the first half.
