Gayan, Nilani steal the limelight

The best effort came from Gayan Jayawardena of Sri Lanka Navy where he set a new mark while competing in the Men’s discus throw final.

The 40-year-old veteran athlete cleared 56.40 metres and bettered his own record of 53.52m which he established in 2016 in Colombo.  
 
The second record of the day was set by another promising athlete Nilani Ratnayake who set a new mark in the Women’s 3,000m steeplechase final. 

The 28-year-old athlete from Sri Lanka Army shattered her own record of 9:55.52 seconds which she established this year in Colombo.

The feature in this meet was the participation of all National athletes who have been selected to compete in the Asian Games which will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia later this month.
