Former league-winning Kandy Sports Club captain Richard Dharmapala has become a transfer target for a couple of leading clubs, as the Sri Lanka 7’s star is yet to commit his future to Kandy Sports Club.
Dharmapala, who is capable of playing in a number of positions in the backline, was in top form before he was sidelined by a nasty knee injury which required overseas medical treatment. As a result, the former Science College skipper missed the entirety of last season.
Daily Mirror can confirm that the 26-year-old has still not signed a new contract with Kandy Sports Club, and that the player has had offers from two leading clubs.
Sources close to the player suggest that the player is “totally looking forward to getting back to rugby this year” having missed so much rugby both locally and internationally. However, it still remains to be seen whether he would prefer a return to Colombo.
Despite the huge number of signings CH and FC have made for this upcoming club rugby season, Kandy Sports Club is still one of the strongest sides in the competition, but the team from the Hill Capital might look to tie Dharmapala down to a new contract given what he could offer to Kandy SC.
