Holy Family Convent, Bambalapitiya emerged undefeated champions in the Western Province Schools Basketball Tournament, advancing through to the All-Island School Basketball Games.
The Western Province School Games basketball tournaments took place recently with 29 girls’ teams featured in the tournament with 16 teams in the Under 17 category and 13 teams in the U20 category.
Matches up to quarterfinals were played as knockouts and the winning four teams were played at the St. Peter’s College Basketball court.
The U20 familians secured a dominant 53 – 07 against CIS at the final defeating Bishop’s College 67 – 20 at the quarters and Our Lady of Victory 69 – 30 at the semi-finals.
The younger familians saw off St. Joseph’s Girl’s School to win their final with a score line of 28 – 17 securing a spot in the All-Island School Games.
HFC’s U17 team clinched the win defeating Our Lady of Victory quarter-finals 57 – 22 and Lyceum Wattala at the semis 47-27.
Both teams started strong and kept the momentum throughout the tournament scoring in each possession they could, pressurizing the oppositions with a tight defense, dominating in terms of pace, steals and rebounds which led to many fast breaks.
