India launched their defence for the ICC Under-19 World Cup title by defeating Sri Lanka by 90 runs in their Group ‘A’ opening fixture worked off at the Mangaung Oval, Bloemfontein, South Africa today (19).
India Under-19 hammered an imposing 297 for four wickets from their 50 overs after being put into bat and then bowled out their opponents for 207 in 45.2 overs.
The foundation for India Under-19’s victory was laid by their top order batsmen with Yashasvi Jaiswal (59), Priyam Garg (56) and Dhruv Chand Jurel (52) all completing solid half centuries.
Sri Lanka Under-19 in reply lost the key wicket of opener Navod Paranavithana in the fourth over and they were eventually bowled out in the 46th over with Akash Singh (2/29), Siddhesh Veer (2/34) and Ravi Bishnoi (2/44) sharing the wickets.
Skipper Nipun Dananjaya made a vain effort while making a top score of 50 from 59 deliveries with one six and a couple of boundaries while Ravindu Rashantha struck 49 with the help of five boundaries.
