Joseph Vaz SC, Wennappuwa and Hirdramani SC, Kegalle won the men’s and women’s title in the Dialog President’s Gold Cup Junior Volleyball Championship held at NYSC Indoor Stadium in Maharagama yesterday.
Hirdramani SC routed Rathanapala SC, Mahausweva 3-0 (25/14 25/22 25/16) in the women’s final and swept the awards with M.P.S.P. Wijesinghe being adjudged Best Setter, S.G. Dilukshi (Best Attacker) and H.P. Nimeshika Sewwandi (Best Player).
Joseph Vaz SC had to claw back after United SC first set 25/20 in the men’s final before bouncing back to win convincingly 3-1 (20/25 25/15 25/22 25/11). Joseph Vaz grabbed the awards for Best Setter which went to Maleesha Ravishan Jayawardane and Best Player – Chamath Dilshan. United’s Mahela Indeewara was adjudged Best Attacker.
Special awards went to J.W.P. Thushari (Best Setter) and R.M.A.G. Chathurika Ranasinghe (Beast Player) of Vijaya SC. S.G. Dilushi Harhsani Senarathna of Hirdramani SC won the Best Attacker award.
The grand finale of the 14th Dialog President’s Gold Cup Senior Volleyball Championship, Sri Lanka’s premier volleyball tournament for both men and women organized by the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation (SLVB), will be held today at the NYSC indoor courts in Maharagama from 1.00pm.
Ratanapala SC, Mahauswewa will meet Golden Bird SC, Radawana in the women’s final which will take place at 1.00pm.
Rantharu SC, Debagama and Siyanetharu SC, Gampaha will battle it out in the men’s final scheduled to start at 3.00pm.
