Defending champions Kandy Sports Club put down a marker when they trounced CH & FC 39 points (5 tries, 4 conversion and 2 penalties) to 3 (1 penalty) in their Inter-Club rugby league match played at the Nittawela Rugby Stadium on Sunday (30).
At the short breather Kandy led 06-03.
It was an excellent outing for the Kandy forwards, a majority of them playing their first season, as they kept up to a high standard not allowing CH & FC to push them over, and defended three five-meter scrums.
Both teams traded penalties in the first 15 minutes, with Tharinda Ratwatte putting one over for the hosts and Thenuka Nanayakkara successful for CH & FC.
Kandy held a slender lead at half-time after Ratwatte put over a second penalty.
After the interval, the game completely changed in favour of the hosts, with tries from Srinarth Sooriyabandara (2) and a hat-trick from Ratwatte (3) as Kandy ran away easy winners.
Ratwatte had a hand in 29 points, which helped Kandy take the bonus point win.
