Maliyadeva Balika Vidyalaya emerged overall champions in the 31st Milo Schools Netball Tournament when they secured three titles in the finals, which concluded at the Uyanwatta Stadium in Matara yesterday.

The champion Maliyadeva BV outfit clinched the title in style as they came out on top in three age groups.

They won the Under-13 Tournament defeating Devi Balika Vidyalaya, Borella, their Under-15 Team overcame Anula Vidyalaya, Nugegoda and in took the Under-19 final with a thrilling 40-39 victory. 

Mahamaya Girls’ School, Kandy was the only other team to win an age group title when they came out on top in the Under-17 final defeating Musaeus College.

The champion Maliyadeva BV Team also produced three individual Best Player award winners in three age group finals.

Shehara Wijesuriya was the Best Player in the Under-13 age group, Senumi Nimansa was the Best Player in the Under-15 and Hashini Udagedera was the Best Player in the Under-19.
The Best Player in the Under-17 was Ayodya Alawaththegama of Mahamaya Girls’ School, Kandy.

(Under-13 semi-finals): Devi Balika Vidyalaya, Borella beat Samudradevi BV, Nugegoda 10-4. Maliyadeva BV, Kurunegala beat Hillwood College 16-4. (Under-15 semi-finals): Maliyadeva BV, Kurunegala beat Samudradevi BV, Nugegoda 22-8. Anula BV, Nugegoda beat Hillwood College 14-9. (Under-17 semi-finals): Mahamaya Girls’ School, Kandy beat Visakha Vidyalaya 34-16. Hillwood College beat Musaeus College 24-18. (Under-19 semi-finals): Holy Family Convent, Kalutara beat Devi Balika Vidyalaya 26-25. Maliyadeva BV, Kurunegala beat Musaeus College 31-24. (Under-13 final): Maliyadeva BV, Kurunegala beat Devi Balika Vidyalaya, Borella 8-6. (Under-15 final): Maliyadeva BV, Kurunegala beat Anula Vidyalaya, Nugegoda 21-11. (Under-17 final): Mahamaya Girls’ School, Kandy beat Musaeus College 32-22. (Under-19 final): Maliyadeva BV, Kurunegala beat Holy Family Convent, Kalutara 40-39.
