Police Sports Club produced a superb second-half rally to beat Air Force Sports Club 36-15 in their Dialog Inter-Club ‘A’ Division League Rugby Tournament first-round fixture played at Ratmalana on Friday (10).
Police SC collected their points through four goals, one try and a penalty after leading 7-0 at half-time while Air Force SC responded with three unconverted tries.
Police SC opened their scoring in the 9th minute when their Fijian Centre Emosi Vunivosa registered a try mid-right and Full-back Nalin Kumara converted to take the lead 7-0.
Both teams were not able to score for the remainder of the first-half.
Air Force SC scored their first try when number eight Imesh Aponso powered his way to score in the 45th minute. However, the conversion went astray.
Seven minutes later, flanker Udara Suriyapperuma scored another five points for Police SC.
Police SC scored their third try in the 57th minute as Full-back Sachith Silva mesmerised the Air Force defence to score near the post. Nalin Kumara made an easy kick at goal to make the scores read 19-5.
Soon after, Police SC further extended their lead when Sachith planted his second try of the match in style. Nalin Kumara put over his third conversion to amend the scores to 26-5.
Four minutes later, Nalin Kumara put over a 35-metre penalty to make it 29-5.
Air Force SC managed to pull off a try when Second-row Shashika Fernando crashed through for an unconverted try off a rolling maul.
Police SC increased their lead when Vihanga Pivithuru dived over for an under-the-post try and Nalin Kumara made the conversion to make the scores read 36-10.
In the final minutes of the game Air Force SC Full-back Faris Ali scored an unconverted try but Police SC came out winners 36-15 in the end.
